This project is born from a passion for showcasing the incredible voices and journeys of our club members — amplifying real experiences to inspire growth across Southern Africa.
I didn't grow up loving the spotlight. I grew up listening. To my grandmother's proverbs, to the radio at dusk, to the way good speakers leave room for the audience to breathe. Toastmasters gave me the tools — but the journey gave me the story.
I joined my first club as a guest who couldn't get through an Ice Breaker without my hands shaking. Five years later I've served as Area Director, Finance Manager, and Club Retention Chair — and as President of both Sandton Toastmasters (leading the club to Smedley Distinguished) and Rivonia Toastmasters (Select Distinguished). Along the way I earned my first Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM) recognition in 2025, and returned to earn a second in 2026 — proof, if I needed it, that the path never really ends. Most stubbornly, I've been a mentor to more than a dozen speakers who reminded me, in turn, what bravery looks like up close.
My work focuses on the people behind the speeches. The guest who almost didn't come back. The officer who agreed to a role they didn't think they could fill. The member preparing for District. If you're in any of those chapters, you'll find something here for you.
— From guest, to great. That's the project.
A growing collection of member stories — the awkward first meeting, the breakthrough speech, the leadership role they almost turned down. Real journeys, told in their own voice, gathered to encourage the next guest who walks in the door.
The speech is never the point. The speaker becoming — that's the point.
